Events always focus on these 5 Principles…
The Five Principles for Mindset Guidance:
Issues and challenges we face in our professional and/or personal lives (“Phenomena”) are ever-changing and in flux. There is never nothing going on with them.
Contexts (moment-to-moment situations and broad social matters) constantly shape and re-shape these phenomena.
We must slow down a concrete dimension of a phenomenon, and a context that is shaping it, in order to open it up for reflection.
We then try to “see what frames our seeing” of that concrete dimension of the phenomenon and a context that is shaping it.
Finally, we aim to “look at, instead of through, the frames” that are most influencing the challenging phenomenon we are experiencing.
Philosophocking w/Mark Space-Holdings
What is PhilosoPhocking?
PhilosoPhocking is, both, a deeply reflective and a playfully irreverent way to work the 5 Principles. These “space-holdings” are 30-minute Zooms over lunch (12:00) or happy hour (5:00) (US Central Time). There are all sorts of ways to participate—cameras on or off; populate chat or don't; multi-task and just listen or mono-task and settle in; and no breakout rooms.
When we philosophock we take a little time out of our busy day to slow down this version of ourselves…
…so we can, however briefly, return to this version of ourselves…
The Name
Not long ago, likely around the time this picture was taken…
my youngest of 3, Chase, and I were having a lengthy and spirited debate. In extreme frustration, Chase yelled, “you have to stop!” I asked, “why?” To which he replied, “because, you are such a—Philosof**ker!”
I paused to gather myself and then responded with the following:
First, even though I am totally cool with swearing, that is going a little far, dude.
Second, you are right.
Third, that is genius!
Chase and I have since workshopped the spelling and came to agreement on what you see here. My deep thanks (and credit) to Chase for not only creating this term, but also (and more importantly) for setting an important boundary with me and my philosophocking while parenting!!!!
Check out this reel where I describe PhilosoPhocking in anticipation of my first space-holding (December 2024)…
